Delhi: Rajasthan has the maximum number of universities in the country. Ladakh is the state with the least number of universities. Regarding higher education, a survey has been released by AISHE and a list of higher education facilities in the country (India) has been released. The names of the districts having maximum number of colleges have also been presented in this survey. The report states that Chandigarh, Goa and Mizoram have three universities each. According to this survey report, the state of Rajasthan has the highest number of 92 private universities, 26 state public universities, 7 autonomous universities, 5 important national educational institutions and one central and one state-run university. Rajasthan (92) is followed by Uttar Pradesh – 84, Gujarat – 83, Madhya Pradesh – 74, Karnataka – 72, Maharashtra – 71, Tamil Nadu – 59, West Bengal in the report released by this institution which examines the quality of higher education. Ladakh (2) has the least number of universities. The report states that Chandigarh, Goa and Mizoram have three universities each.

There are a total of 8114 colleges in Uttar Pradesh (UP). There are 32 colleges per one lakh population. In this case, Maharashtra is on the second number and there are 4532 colleges in Maharashtra and there are 34 colleges for every one lakh population. Karnataka ranks third with 4233 colleges and 62 colleges per population. Rajasthan is at the fourth position and has 3694 colleges. There are 40 colleges per one lakh population.
