While the government is promoting ‘Make in India’ and many tech companies have started manufacturing their phones in India, the new report is disappointing. It has come to the fore that the number of people buying ‘Made in India’ smartphones has decreased and their shipments have decreased as compared to earlier. This data related to the market has been shared by Counterpoint Research.
In the second quarter of the year 2022, there was an increase in the sales of smartphones made in India and there were good signs, but in the third quarter, the shipments once again declined. There are indications that smartphones made in India are not performing well in the local market and there are fewer customers to buy them. It has been told in the report that the entry level segment has been affected the most.
has seen so much decline
According to the report of Counterpoint Research, in the third quarter of the year 2022, the shipments of smartphones included in the ‘Made in India’ category have come down by 8%. 5.2 crore Made in India handset units have been sold between July and September. The figure is lower than the previous quarter and consumer demand for such devices has gone down sharply.
Due to which the market got affected?
The report states that two major reasons have emerged for the decline in the sales of Made in India smartphones. Firstly, especially in the entry level segment, customers did not take interest in such devices which are made in India. At the same time, political instability is also being considered responsible for this to some extent. However, the overall market in India has become better than before.
Presence of these Indian phone brands
The smartphone manufacturing sector in India continues to grow, with 67% of shipments coming from in-house producers and 37% from third-party sources. BYD and LAVA are the fastest growing Indian brands in terms of total smartphone shipments. The good thing is that due to partnership with Indian manufacturers, global brands are also starting manufacturing within the country.
