Mumbai: Encouraged by a strong trend in global markets, local stock markets rose for the second consecutive day as investors continued to build up, and both the major indices closed with gains on Tuesday. BSE’s 30-share index Sensex registered a gain of 361.01 points, or 0.60 percent, and closed at 60,927.43 points at the end of trading.
At one point of time it had jumped up to 420.26 points during trading. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange’s index Nifty also increased by 117.70 points, or 0.65 percent, to close at 18,132.30 points. Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, Wipro, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra and Titan were among the major gainers in the Sensex pack.

On the other hand, shares of Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra and Nestle were in loss. In other Asian markets, Kospi of South Korea, Nikkei of Japan, Shanghai Composite Sol of China closed with gains. European markets were also trading with gains in the afternoon session. US stock markets were closed on Monday.
International oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.49 per cent to $84.33 a barrel. Meanwhile, foreign investors continued to pull out of Indian markets. Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 497.65 crore on a net basis on Monday, according to available data. (agency)
