New Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma believes that by reaching the final of the Test Championship (WTC Final) for the second time in a row, the players of his team presented a great example of their spirit, especially when the team is in the title match in 2021. All these three players are injured. Apart from Rohit, only Pant and Iyer averaged above 40 runs per innings in the first WTC cycle, while Bumrah took 45 wickets in 10 matches in that period. Senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara said that the team should remember the contribution of these three players. Pujara said, โThere are many players who contributed to the team. Some of these players are no longer part of the team but it is important that we remember the efforts of each and every player who contributed to this cycle. Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that making it to the WTC final for the second time in a row is no small feat. Ashwin said, โIt definitely started from 2014. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had retired and all of us players had played very few Test matches and we had to start our journey from there. He said, โIt was not an easy task without senior players but I can say that the tireless efforts we put in paid off in the last two WTC cycles.โ Ashwin said, โWe have made it to the final for the second time in a row and it is not an easy achievement. We would have liked to have won the series 3-1 or 3-0 in India but Australia played some brilliant cricket. We didn’t get the desired result but we maintained consistency in our performance which resulted in us being in the finals today.” (agency)
