Wrestlers Protest | Big relief to WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh! Minor wrestler withdraws case: sources



PTI Photo New Delhi. A minor female wrestler has withdrawn her case against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sources said that on Friday (June 2), the minor female wrestler withdrew the case by going to the Patiala House Court. However, no official statement has come in this regard yet. Wrestlers protesting for two months It is notable that eminent wrestlers of the country have been protesting for the last two months demanding the arrest of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh from Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh, accusing him of sexual exploitation. Among the wrestlers performing are Vinesh Phogat and many eminent wrestlers including Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik. The minor wrestler had lodged a case with the Delhi Police. This case was registered under the POCSO Act. The case was registered on the instructions of the Supreme Court It is noteworthy that on April 21, 7 female wrestlers including a minor had complained of sexual exploitation against Brij Bhushan Singh. But the case was not registered. After this the wrestlers filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Following a Supreme Court order, the Delhi Police on April 29 registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan Singh, the first under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act based on allegations made by a minor wrestler. However, no action has been taken against them so far. While addressing the ‘Sarva Samaj Samarthan Panchayat’ in Mundlana of Sonepat district in Haryana in support of the wrestlers, Poonia requested the speakers not to announce any decision and said that the wrestlers would call a ‘mahapanchayat’ in the next 3-4 days. He said, “We will hold a mahapanchayat and give a call for it. We’ll fix the place. We want to bring everyone together for that panchayat, we don’t want to be divided.” Brijbhushan Sharan Singh is accused of sexually assaulting several female wrestlers, including a minor.
