Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy | After IPL, ‘Impact Player’ rule will be implemented in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, BCCI approves

Mumbai: The famous ‘Impact Player’ rule of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be used in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy starting on 16 October. The BCCI’s Apex Council approved it on Friday. The ‘Impact Player’ rule was introduced in the last Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy but the player had to be brought on or before the 14th over and his name had to be announced before the toss. However, this will change from next season and will be used in the same way as in the IPL, with teams being allowed to name four substitutes in addition to the playing XI before the toss. Also read Each team can use only one of these four substitute players as an ‘Impact Player’. This rule was approved in the meeting of the Apex Council of BCCI (Indian Cricket Board) held in Mumbai on Friday. According to a rule guideline, “Both teams will be allowed to use one ‘impact player’ in each match.” This is however not mandatory. The apex council has also approved the participation of men’s and women’s teams for the Hangzhou Asian Games in September-October. The men’s event will begin on September 28 in which a secondary Indian team will take part, while the women’s event, which begins on September 19, will feature a premier team. The Cricket Asiad has been played only thrice in history and the last time it was held in Incheon in 2014, India did not participate. The tournament is being held along with the Men’s ODI World Cup starting on October 5. In a note, the BCCI said fielding a team for the Asian Games will be a challenge considering the busy international schedule but playing for the nation is also important and overcoming the challenges, the Indian team will play in both the categories. India is a strong contender to win the gold medal in both the men’s and women’s categories. (agency)
