RR Vs CSK | Jaiswal and the bowlers steered the Royals to victory over the Superkings

Adam Zampa and Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin spell after opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century helped Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by 32 runs here on Thursday to top the points table. Royals, Superkings and Gujarat Titans all have 10 points but due to better net run rate Royals team is on top. Titans, however, have played one less match than the other two teams with eight. Chasing Royals’ target of 203 runs, Shivam Dubey (52 runs in 33 balls, two fours, four sixes) in front of the spin of Jampa (three wickets for 22 runs) and Ashwin (two wickets for 35 runs) of Superkings. Despite a fine innings of half-century and Ruturaj Gaikwad (47), could only score 170 runs for six wickets. The Royals had earlier scored half-centuries from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (77 off 43 balls, eight fours, four sixes) and Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15 balls, three fours, two sixes) and Devdutt Padikkal (23 not out off 13 balls, four sixes) Fours) scored 202 runs for five wickets with a 48-run partnership in 20 balls for the fifth wicket. The Superkings got off to a slow start chasing the target. The team scored 42 runs for one wicket in the power play, which is the team’s minimum score in the first six overs in the current season. The team of Superkings could only score 13 runs in the first three overs. Gaikwad then took the lead and hit fours and sixes off successive balls of Jason Holder. Gaikwad also showed the ball of Ashwin and Jampa to the boundary. In-form Devon Conway, however, after scoring only eight runs in 16 balls, gave a simple catch to Sandeep Sharma at mid-off off Zampa. After this, Gaikwad was caught by Padikkal at long-on in an attempt to play a big shot off Jampa. He hit five fours and a six in his 29-ball innings. Ashwin gave a double blow to the Superkings in the 11th over. After getting Ajinkya Rahane (15) caught by Butler, Ambati Rayudu (00) was also caught by Holder and scored Super Kings 73 for four. Moeen Ali tried to increase the run rate with sixes off Holder and Yuzvendra Chahal, while Shivam Dubey hit Ashwin for two consecutive sixes to complete his team’s century in the 14th over. Dubey hit Jampa for another six in the next over but Moeen (23) gave a catch to wicketkeeper Samson. Superkings needed 78 runs to win in the last five overs. Only four runs were scored in Sandeep’s 16th over. Dubey collected 16 runs in Holder’s next over with two fours and a six. In the 18th over of Sandeep, Ravindra Jadeja (23 not out) hit two fours, which scored 12 runs in the over. Superkings needed 46 runs in the last two overs to win. Holder scored only nine runs in the 19th over, which almost sealed the defeat of the Super Kings. Meanwhile, Dubey completed his third consecutive half-century in 29 balls. Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bat first, after which Jaiswal along with Butler (27) got the team off to a stormy start once again. Both added 64 runs in the power play without losing a wicket. Jaiswal looked in rhythm from the beginning. He hit six fours and a six in the first two overs of Akash Singh. Butler also hit two fours each on Tushar Deshpande and Mahesh Teekshana. Jaiswal completed his half-century in 26 balls with sixes and then one run over Ravindra Jadeja. Wicketkeeper captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni dropped Butler’s catch on Teekshana’s ball. Butler, however, could not take advantage of this and in the next over, Jadeja was caught by Shivam Dubey at long on, which ended the 86-run partnership for the first wicket. He hit four fours while facing 21 balls. The century of Super Kings runs was completed in the 10th over. Read this too Samson struggled to score runs and was eventually caught by Gaikwad at long-on off Deshpande after scoring 17 runs in 17 balls. In the same over, Deshpande gave a double blow to the Royals by getting Jaiswal caught by Ajinkya Rahane at backward point. Shimron Hetmyer also played Mahesh Teekshana’s ball on the wickets after scoring just eight runs in 10 balls, which made the team’s score 146 for four in the 17th over. Padikkal tried to increase the run rate with two consecutive fours off Mathisa Pathirana. In the 19th over, Jurel hit Deshpande for fours and sixes on consecutive balls. He also hit sixes and fours in successive balls of Pathirana in the next over but was again run out. Deshpande was the most successful bowler for the Super Kings with two wickets but he went for 42 runs in four overs. Pathirana scored 48 runs in four overs while Akash Singh scored 32 runs in two overs. Both did not get any wicket. (agency)
