Bangalore. Maintaining their dominance, South Zone thrashed West Zone by 75 runs to win the Duleep Trophy cricket tournament here on Sunday. Chasing a target of 298, West Zone extended their second innings to 182 for five on the morning of the fifth day and were bowled out for 222. For South Zone, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore and fast bowler Vasuki Kaushik took four wickets each. South Zone has won the Duleep Trophy title for the 14th time. With this, he also paid the revenge of the defeat from the West Zone last year. Last year, West Zone defeated South Zone by 294 runs in the final. Priyank Panchal extended his innings by 92 runs in the morning but he returned to the pavilion after adding only three runs in it. He handed a catch to wicketkeeper Ricky Bhui off fast bowler Vidavath Kaverappa. Due to this, the true hope of the western region ended. Kaverappa was adjudged the player of the match. Also read Atit Seth (9) and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (15) added 23 runs for the eighth wicket but this could only reduce the margin of defeat.
