World Telecom Day | Know the purpose of celebrating ‘World Telecom Day’ and what are the special things related to it

With the aim of raising awareness about its importance, ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’ is celebrated every year on 17th May all over the world. Let’s know some special things about this day on this special occasion – Since 1969, World Telecom Day (WTD) is being celebrated every year on May 17. In the year 2005, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) had decided to celebrate May 17 as ‘World Telecommunication Day’. On this day, on 17 May 1865, the International Telecommunication Union was also established. When the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris. The program was formally launched in 1973 at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Málaga-Torrmolinos, Spain. The main purpose of celebrating ‘World Telecom Day’ is to help raise awareness in creating possibilities of using internet, phone information and communication technologies. The theme of this year’s conference emphasizes the importance of using telecommunication and information and communication technologies (ICT) to stay healthy, connected and independent on a physical, emotional and financial level.
