Belgrade. President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday said India is going through a rapid and unprecedented transformation and the country is on track to become the world’s third largest economy before the end of the decade. Addressing the Indian community in the Serbian capital, President Murmu also said that new infrastructure is being developed rapidly across India and the country is expected to become a developed nation by 2047. Soon after arriving here on a state visit, he said, “India is the fastest growing major economy in the world. With a GDP close to USD 3.5 trillion, we are on track to become the third largest economy in the world before the end of this decade. Noting that both India and Serbia are ancient lands, the President said that in the modern era, India’s relations with Serbia have been defined exclusively in the context of the Non-Aligned Movement. He also appreciated the sporting ties between the two countries and said that tennis player Novak Djokovic is seen as a role model and inspiration for millions in India. He said, “Many sports coaches from Serbia are helping Indian athletes and sportspersons in improving their skills. We are overwhelmed by your appreciation and love for India. Earlier in the day, President Murmu, who arrived here from Suriname, was received at the airport by her Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic. This is the first visit of an Indian President to Serbia. The President’s Office tweeted, “President Draupadi Murmu was warmly welcomed upon arrival in Belgrade.” This is the first visit of an Indian President to Serbia.
