Pakistan | Those involved in violence will not be spared: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that those involved in the May 9 violence and attacks on military installations and government institutions would not be spared. Addressing a meeting here on the law and order situation in the country in the wake of violence following the May 9 arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan, Shahbaz said the “riot” law Will not be able to escape from. “It has been decided that those involved in the May 9 violence and those who instigated it will be punished as per the law and the Constitution,” he said. Violent protests broke out after Khan was arrested by paramilitary personnel from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on May 9. His party workers vandalized a dozen military installations including Jinnah House (Lahore Corps Commander’s House), Mianwali Air Force Base and the ISI building in Faisalabad. The army headquarters in Rawalpindi was also attacked by the mob. The prime minister said it was no joke that terrorists attacked Air Force installations in Karachi and then “Khan’s supporters set fire to the aircraft in Mianwali” which was used against the enemy. He said, “I have asked the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Home Minister of the country and the Director General of the Intelligence Bureau to discharge their responsibilities.” The prime minister compared the “violence perpetrated by members of Khan’s party on May 9” to the acts of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terror group.
