Pakistan | Protesters will be dealt with strictly: Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday condemned the violent protests by supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan following his arrest in a corruption case and warned of strict action against the protesters. The Prime Minister gave a brief address to the nation after the deadly violence during the last two days of protests in the country. In the said violence, military installations were attacked and property of the country was damaged. The Prime Minister said, “Attack on public property is an act of terrorism and enmity towards the country.” He said that those who take law into their hands will be dealt with strictly. “He will be punished in such a way that he sets an example,” he said. Also read At the same time, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called on the authorities to respect due process and refrain from violence from all sides on the ongoing protests in the country following the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Deputy Spokesman of the Secretary-General Farhan Haq said Guterres urged the Pakistani authorities to respect due process of law in the proceedings against the country’s former prime minister.
