Imran Khan | Imran Khan’s aide became the “prime minister” of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party MP Chaudhary Anwarul Haque was on Thursday elected the “prime minister” of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The top post fell vacant last week after former “prime minister” Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan was disqualified by the region’s high court for defaming the top judiciary. Haq, who was also the speaker of the provincial legislature, received the support of all 48 members present in the house, including all major parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. Sardar Tanveer was disqualified from office on 11 April for contempt of court by criticizing the top judiciary during a public speech. Earlier on Monday, a legislative session to elect a new “prime minister” was adjourned without a vote. Sardar Tanveer, at a function in Islamabad, accused the judiciary of indirectly influencing the functioning of his government and interfering in the domain of the executive through adjournment orders.
