IIT Campus in Abu Dhabi | IIT Delhi to set up its campus in Abu Dhabi, MoU signed; Courses will start from January 2024



New Delhi: The Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) have signed an agreement to set up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in the Gulf country. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The move is part of the drive to globalize the IITs. IIT Delhi is the second IIT to have announced setting up a campus outside the country. IIT Madras last week signed an MoU to set up its campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Giving this information, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted, “A new chapter in the internationalization of Indian education will begin with the signing of the MoU to set up the Abu Dhabi campus of IIT Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Read this too He said, “The IIT Delhi campus in the UAE will be an example of the innovation and expertise of the new India, a building of friendship between India and the UAE. It will create a new blueprint to harness the power of knowledge for both mutual prosperity and global welfare as envisaged in the NEP (New Education Policy).” Masters’ courses will be made available at the Abu Dhabi campus from January next year, while undergraduate-level programs will be available from September. The academic program and teaching methodology will be as per IIT Delhi and the degree will also be awarded by IIT Delhi. “The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the top leadership of the two countries in early 2022 envisaged the establishment of an IIT campus in the UAE,” IIT Delhi said in a statement. Ministry of Education marks IIT Delhi for timely implementation of its efforts strategically important for the country. IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi is envisaged to be a research center campus of IIT Delhi which will offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees. (agency)
