Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is on a visit to Mauritius, met Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and President Prithviraj Singh Roopan of the island nation and held “positive discussions” with them on strengthening Maharashtra-Mauritius ties. Fadnavis said that the Mauritius Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Fadnavis met these leaders on Friday. He said that this step would pave the way for a stronger connectivity and ease of trade between Mauritius-Maharashtra. The deputy chief minister on Friday evening inaugurated a 12-feet tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Moka in the island nation, where he also announced Rs eight crore to Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation for expansion of Maharashtra Bhavan there and scholarship to 10 students. Fadnavis promised to set up a separate cell to ensure that Marathi-speaking people in Mauritius can keep in constant touch with their ancestral place of origin. There was a very positive discussion on taking the Maharashtra-Mauritius relationship to an even more advanced stage.” On his meeting with Mauritius President Prithviraj Singh Rooppan, Fadnavis said, “It was very informative listening to him based on his vast knowledge and experience in various fields. He also guided us on ways to take forward the relations between Maharashtra and Mauritius. The Deputy Chief Minister also met several other Mauritian leaders. “We had a detailed discussion on various sectors and the way forward on Maharashtra-Mauritius cooperation,” he said on Twitter.
