Shaktikanta Das | No one will face any problem in the process of withdrawing Rs 2,000 note, said RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das

Image-Twitter New Delhi, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikant Das on Wednesday assured that the process of withdrawing Rs 2,000 notes will be completed without any hitch. Along with this, he said that the situation of the central bank is constantly being monitored. The Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes last Friday as part of currency management. However, the central bank had also clarified that it was not demonetisation and the Rs 2,000 note would continue to be legal tender and people could use it for making payments. Asked about this during an event of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Das said the process of withdrawing Rs 2,000 notes would be done without any hindrance. “We have done our assessment for this,” he said. Das said the central bank is constantly monitoring the situation and no major issue has come to the fore so far. It has taken 131 days to change the 2,000 note or deposit it in the bank account, which has started from Tuesday. The Rs 2,000 note accounts for 10.8 per cent (Rs 3.6 lakh crore) of the total currency in circulation. These notes can be exchanged or deposited in bank accounts till September 30.
