File Photo Delhi: Attempts to evade the payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the recently concluded year 2022-23 have been largely foiled by the tax authorities and tax evasion of over Rs 1.01 lakh crore has been detected. Giving this information, an official said that the officers of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) also recovered Rs 21,000 crore from tax evaders in the last year. The official said the government is taking steps to enhance tax compliance and data analysis and human intelligence inputs are being used to detect frauds. Almost double compared to last year, the official told PTI that DGCI officials have detected tax evasion of Rs 1,01,300 crore in the financial year 2022-23, which is almost double compared to last year. In the financial year 2021-22, DGCI had detected tax evasion of Rs 54,000 crore. Nearly 14,000 cases of tax evasion were registered in the last financial year as against 12,574 a year ago.
