Automobile companies are pushing to increase their ranks with electric two-wheelers and electric cars along with charging facilities. The government is also in talks with veteran industrialists. Efforts are underway to build electric highways exclusively for electric cars. A lot of work is being done on the pilot project of Electric Highway between Delhi to Agra and Delhi to Jaipur. Along with the emphasis on development of indigenous technology, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, speaking at an event of the Confederation of Industry (CII) this week, said that discussions are going on with several companies for the development of economically viable electric highways. Development of pollution free and indigenous technology is necessary. Gadkari had announced the concept of development of Electric Highway a few days back.
