Shiv Sena’s grip intact in Talakkonam | Shiv Sena’s strength remains in Konkan area

Satish Kamat

While three MLAs from Raigad district of Konkan division, which is considered as Shiv Sena’s stronghold, joined Eknath Shinde’s rebellion, all the six Sena MLAs from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts except Yogesh Kadam remained with party chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Mahendra Dalvi (Alibag), Bharat Gogavale (Mahad) and Mahendra Thorve (Karjat) MLAs from Raigad district have revolted. Therefore, the existence of Shiv Sena party organization in Raigad district is in danger. Other office bearers of the party are also unhappy with the party leadership as the unruly affairs of NCP’s weighty leader MP Sunil Tatkare and his ministerial daughter Aditi are not being curbed. Despite being in power, they are constantly shouting that they are not getting funds and development works are not being done. In the presence of all the three MLAs, Shiv Sena office bearers had demanded Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to change the Guardian Minister of Raigad. However, this demand was not given much attention. At Aditya Thackeray’s meeting in Mangaon, the three MLAs had raised their voices against the NCP and Tatkare. But ignoring the displeasure of the MLAs, Aditya had gone to Tatkare’s house and received hospitality. Out of this resentment, it is seen that the MLAs have raised the flag of rebellion against the party leadership.

Ratnagiri is considered to be the stronghold of the district army. With the exception of Chiplun (MLA Shekhar Nikam), Shiv Sena has MLAs in all the four seats. Among them, Chiranjeev MLA Yogesh Kadam of senior party leader Ramdas Kadam has entered Shinde’s tent as expected. But the state’s higher and technical education minister Uday Samant, former minister Bhaskar Jadhav and senior MLA Rajan Salvi are all with senior leader Thackeray. All three are entrenched in legislative politics. Bhaskar Jadhav is the most senior leader among the three. Their influence is in Guhagar-Chiplun taluka. For the first 10 years of Samant’s career, NCP and now Shiv Sena have a political path. The two do not have much in common. Salvi is the oldest, most loyal party worker. However, the feudal lords have dominated the trio in both ministerial and organizational holdings. If he stays with Thackeray, the strength of Shiv Sena in Ratnagiri district will remain intact to a large extent. This will be very important in the run up to the Municipal Council and Zilla Parishad Panchayat Samiti elections in the district.

I don’t like betrayal in Konkan – MLA Vaibhav Naik

Union Minister Narayan Rane’s dominance in Sindhudurg district is still maintained. The duo does not blame their Chiranjeev MLA Nitesh and former MP Nilesh for dropping the vaccine on Shiv Sena. Deepak Kesarkar (Sawantwadi) and Vaibhav Naik (Malvan) have been elected on Shiv Sena tickets in the remaining two of the three assembly seats in the district. Of these, Kesarkar’s role is to form an alliance with BJP. So they can’t be trusted. Naik, however, has been constantly struggling with Rane. He clarified to Loksatta that he would not betray the party which has twice won MLAs in the current political scenario. He also pointed out that Rane was defeated by the people here. Asked if the political battle with Rane will continue, we have been struggling since he was the Chief Minister, Revenue Minister. So it doesn’t matter, said MLA Naik.
