Earthquake shakes Afghanistan, killing 250 – News18 Lokmat

Kabul, June 22: The epicenter was reported below the Earth’s surface, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The quake, which struck on Wednesday (June 22), had a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale. The quake also caused huge financial and loss of life. The quake killed at least 250 people in Afghanistan, according to local authorities. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was about 44 km from the city of Khost in Afghanistan at a depth of 51 km. The quake was so strong that people in neighboring Pakistan felt the tremors.

The quake affected Islamabad, Multan, Bhakar, Falia, Peshawar, Malakand, Swat, Mianwali, Pakpattan and Buner.

Tremors in Malaysia

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake also shook parts of Malaysia, according to the National Center for Seismology. The epicenter was reported 561 km west of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
