Tokyo, August 5: The Indian hockey team has completed its 41-year wait for an Olympic medal. India beat Germany 5-4 in a bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics. India had won a gold medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. After 41 years, India has won an Olympic hockey medal. Germany made an aggressive start in this match. In the second minute, Germany’s Urjan scored a field goal to take a 1-0 lead. India got a penalty corner in the 5th minute. But Rupinder Pal Singh failed to score. Both teams were playing aggressively from the start. Goalkeeper Sreejesh thwarted Germany’s goal in the seventh minute. Germany had a 1-0 lead after the first quarter.
5 goals in the second quarter
The German team has won gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Indian team has been waiting for an Olympic medal for 41 years. Despite this big difference, the Indian team played hard in the second quarter. Simranjit Singh equalized in the second quarter. Then in the 24th minute, Nicolas Whelan of Germany scored a goal to give Germany the lead. Two minutes later, Germany scored another goal to take a 3-1 lead. India lead in the third quarter
