81.19 lakh new investors in mutual funds during the last one year
New Delhi: Last year, a severe lockdown was imposed across the country in the wake of the Corona epidemic. However, 81.19 lakh new investors have been added to the mutual fund industry in the last financial year, 2020-21. With these new figures, the total number of investments in the mutual fund industry, or the number of folios, has now reached Rs 9.78 crore.
The mutual fund industry is expected to flourish in the current financial year as well, economists said. This is according to the latest figures released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). The mutual fund industry has added 72.89 lakh new investors in the financial year 2019-20. “Investors are now aware of long-term as well as short-term investments,” said Kustubh Belapurkar, Managing Director, Morningstar India. Mutual fund companies, financial advisors as well as distributors are raising awareness among investors. Various public awareness programs are also being undertaken. At present, the number of folios available with 43 mutual fund companies has increased to 9,78,65,529 at the end of March 2021 from 8,97,46,051 at the end of March 2020.
